Weekly Notices - 6 October 2024
It was great to have a millennial challenging us last Sunday on our thoughts on mission. Did you enjoy the challenges put forward by Jairus last Sunday?
Sometimes we think of mission as being elsewhere in the world. Our response to this is to give. This is important but what else does the Lord require of you and I when it comes to mission.
Jairus offered the helpful thought that when people are thinking of overseas mission NZCMS asks them ‘what are they doing on the mission field locally.’ Wherever we are there is a mission field and sometimes we miss those opportunities. It’s those little conversations that can happen, for example: recently somebody was in a lift when another person got in and said, ‘are you going up?’ The response was, ‘I certainly hope so,’ this gave a chance to expand on what that comment meant.
It reminds us to realise that mission is all around us. Jairus inspired us to think of local mission and how to be more effective in it.
Did his conversation with us make you think?
Les.
Today’s service
Sentence: We see Jesus ... now crowned with glory and honour because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone (Hebrews 2:9).
Prayer of the day: Loving God, yours is the vineyard and the harvest. Help us to recognise the one you send and to follow him. Make us willing workers in your vineyard, so that we may offer you an abundant harvest. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God now and for ever. Amen
Readings: Job 1:1; 2:1-10 & Mark 10:2-16

Prayer for the regeneration of our Diocese
As the kotuku gently rests upon the tree, come Holy Spirit and rest upon us as we pray for the regeneration of our Diocese. Silence. Everliving God, through your Spirit you constantly renew the whole creation; bring regeneration to your Diocese of Christchurch, grant us courage to grow disciples of Jesus, give us vision to reach young people and their families, and strengthen us to create vibrant communities of faith. All this we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen
