Weekly Notices - 11 August 2024
The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse within State and Church Care Report makes for sobering reading. I think it is helpful if we engage and so I commend the following two gatherings to you.
Friday, August 23: A talk by Ken Clearwater ONZM (Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit) about his work with and support of male survivors of sexual trauma since 1994 in a peer support model.
Venue: All Souls 30 Church Lane, Merivale, 5:30 pm-7 pm.
September 5, 7pm Thursday: A Diocesan Service of Lament at the Transitional Cathedral, 234 Hereford Street. This service is our opportunity to lament the abuse that occurred to individuals while in the care of our church.
You have likely heard on the news or read in the media/social media that the government has declined to give any more money towards the restoration of Christ Church Cathedral. The consequence of this action is that it is likely that the Cathedral will be mothballed until such time as funds become available from other sources. The Transitional Cathedral was designed as a temporary structure and its longevity is not certain. Please keep in prayer that a way forward may become clear.
As always there is much to pray about.
Les.
Today’s service
Sentence: Live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:2).
Prayer of the day: Merciful God, you gave your only Son to be both a sacrifice for sin and an example of godly life; help us gladly to receive all that he has done for us and follow in his footsteps; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
Readings: Ephesians 4:25-5:2 & John 6:35, 41-51

Helpful info
Parish Giving
Thank you to all who are on our envelope/auto payments/online banking. In the past the Tongan Church who had rented our facilities for a number of years, moved into their own church building. We have also had some parishioners head home to eternity. This has meant a loss of over $12,000 in income for us. We would appreciate it if you could prayerfully consider this in your future giving. You can find all the details you’ll need on the Giving Page.
Groups
It’s easy to connect and get involved with some great social and faith-focused groups that meet regularly across the parish. You can find out about all our regular groups on our Groups page. If you have any questions, just click the contact button to connect with the group’s organiser.
Recycling
Used batteries can be placed in the boxes in each church or taken to Mitre 10
Soft plastics can be dropped off at participating store locations. This is any plastic you can fold up in your hand.
Pastoral Care
Need meals or other in-home pastoral support? Please contact the Parish Pastoral Care Co-ordinator.
In-Home Communion
If parishioners can't attend church but would still like to have communion, this can be brought to you at your home or rest home. Please get in touch with the Home Communion Co-ordinator to organise this.
Need prayer?
We’d love to pray for you. See the ‘Prayer Support’ section on the Help & Support page for more information on how we can help with your prayer needs. There are confidential and anonymous options available.
